In Episode Two of What Would Herzog Do? we will discuss two more off the required list for Herzog's Rogue Film School: John Huston's
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and Virgil's
Georgics. We'll also discuss what might be the best known of Herzog's narrative films,
Fitzcarraldo. That film is about a guy who decides to tow a 300 ton ship over a mountain. So that's what Herzog did...without the aid of special effects.
The painting at left is
Nocturnal Landscape by Diego Rivera. In a 1999 exhibit of Rivera's work, the painting was described as representing Mexican peasants watching the filming of
Treasure of the Sierra Madre, illuminated by the production's massive lights.
